Hi tried to install Beta2 to upgrade my WINXP Pro SP2 and I get the message that the upgrade feature has been disable. My only option is to do a clean install. From all that I read, I should have been able to do an upgrade. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Cannot Upgrade from WINXP Pro

1) If you are trying to install 64-bit Vista, it will only do a clean install. 2) If you want to upgrade to 32-bit Vista, run the Setup program from within XP. Only way.
Tom P.S. This is BETA software. Do NOT upgrade your primary machine.
To upgrade you have to run the DVD from Windows. If you boot from the DVD you will only get the clean install option. I did the upgrade on my XP pro SP2 machine to test the upgrade features and to keep from having to reinstall of the software I have on here. There is a bug in mine though Outlook starts windows installer and acts like it is installing something everytime I it sends and receives. If you have office 2k3 and it does that on yours after the upgrade let me know.

Try downloading and running the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. It sounds like the Office installer did not clean up after itself completely. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290301 The download link is in the middle of the page.

Hi when I try to install Vista Beta2, I get that the upgrade feature is disabled and I can do a clean install. Any help would be appreciated.
Hey Jeff, I've been trying for 3 hours to install Vista on my laptop. I found this worked on mine when I had the same message. Go to control panel open add/remove software on the left of this screen click on add windows... and wait, it looks for the cd or download and runs on mine from there.

Just be aware that upgrades of vista can be flaky. In fact, of the six various upgrades tried, none went to completion. Also, any incompatabilities (software/drivers) you have, regardless of whether you uninstall them first, will upset the installation of Vista. I have successfully done so by disabling the driver detection program, but that's another story.

Hey Jeff
Mine worked after i deleted files and got Vista some 9GB free disk space. Try it.
